From Ashes to Light — Creating Heart Commissions with Meaning

 

The Heart of This Work

Over the past few years, my art has led me to some of the most sacred and meaningful work I’ve ever done , creating commissioned glass pieces that hold the cremains of loved ones.

These pieces, often heart-shaped but so

metimes I make necklaces or panels in other shapes regardless- all are made to order with deep care and reverence. Each one carries a story. A person, a bond, a love that continues to shine.

Having experienced a lot of loss in my own life, this work feels deeply personal. It’s more than a creative process, it’s a way of honoring love, remembering connection, and transforming grief into something that glows with light.

The Process: Collaboration and Care

The process begins with a conversation. I take time to connect with the person who’s commissioning the piece. I want to learn about their loved one, the colors or imagery that feel most connected to them, and what form the piece might take.

We can meet online, through email or text, or in person if they’re nearby. I share samples and ideas to help shape the vision together.

Once we’ve settled on a direction, the cremains can be given to me directly or mailed with care. I then carefully incorporate them into the fused glass- layering color, texture, and light to create a piece that feels alive and heartfelt.

The Meaning Behind the Glass

There’s something incredibly humbling about this process. To be trusted with something so sacred, the physical remains of someone loved, is a profound honor.

Each time I open the kiln, I feel that love glowing back at me. A reminder that even in loss, there is beauty, light, and connection that endures.

For me, this work has also been a deeply grounding and restorative practice. A way of walking with grief, of remembering that love doesn’t end, it transforms.

How It Works

• The cremains can be delivered or mailed with clear instructions and care.

• Once your piece is complete, I’ll share photos before it’s shipped or ready for pickup.

Each piece is unique- no two are ever the same and they’re made with heartfelt intention from start to finish.
